My TikTok/Bytedance Journey
Team Structure
Back to 2018, as Douyin(Chinese version of TikTok), growing so rapidly, I was planed to jump out of my confort zone and luckily got a chance to be a Bytedancer.
The diagram can give you a glimpse of how my team positions ourselves in Bytedance.
In my team, there are 40+ teammates in total. Globally, we have 4 offices, Seattle, Mountain View, Shang Hai and Bei Jing.
Background
As the second highest revenue pillar of Bytedance, TikTok started to test ads in mid 2018. Cody witnesses and participants TikTok ads business grew from $5M to $538M per month.
We provide monetization tools for TikTok creators (Creator Market Solutions) and small to medium advertisers (Business Account, Promote), integrated into the TikTok app. Our SMB Growth team supports client growth.
Globally, we focus on high-spend verticals like gaming and e-commerce through Vertical Solutions, and high-spending brands via our Brand Solution PM team. Our TikTok Ads Manager includes measurement, search ads, and creative experience tools. We also offer internal tools like business integrity and CRM for operators and sales teams.
As an OG in TTMP, I’ve witnessed our business achieve tremendous success in that period of time.
The design team has grown from 5 to nearly 50, with 3x YOY growth.
Most importantly, TikTok Ads has now become one of the top global ad platforms in terms of revenue.
